TRANSpose Ensemble logo

TRANSpose is a music ensemble dedicated to the performance of concert music written by transgender composers. Based out of Cleveland, our aim is to appreciate and understand the experiences of gender minorities through original music.

We are a very new ensemble, and so we are currently seeking out new composers, performers, and places to perform. We are still getting everything set up, so check back later with more info on when submissions are open and when performances are.

If you're interested in volunteering to be a composer or performer with TRANSpose, you can fill out this form (coming soon!).

Composer submissions are open to anyone who feels they identify as a gender minority, including transgender, non-binary, and any identity different from one's gender assigned at birth. Performer submissions are open to people of all gender identities.

New and existing pieces are welcome at TRANSpose. Performance repertoire will be decided based on instrumentation available from contributing performers, and rehearsal schedules will be based on repertoire. Repertoire will likely be small ensemble pieces with players only performing on pieces where their instrument is needed, and our aim is to get everyone who is interested involved.

Hope to work with you soon!

TRANSpose was created by myself, Charlotte Watts (she/her/hers), and I am a trans woman and composer. I'm originally from Mansfield, OH, but have been living in the Cleveland area (Parma) for several years now. I graduated from Ashland University in 2020 with degrees in Music and Computer Science, and I currently work as a software developer. I've been composing since high school and have had pieces performed all through college. My main instrument is trombone and I also play bass guitar. Now that I have become more comfortable with myself through my transition I am looking to be regularly involved in music again. I am passionate about both new music performance and celebrating minority experiences, and I am so excited to get to do both of those through TRANSpose!
